DRY NEEDLING

'...incorporating dry needling into your massage session is the perfect complimentary approach to

treating musculoskeletal issues.'

WHAT IS DRY NEEDLING?

Super thin, stainless steel needles are inserted into an affected muscle or trigger point, stimulating your brain to release endorphins... your body's homemade pain medication.

It then causes a contraction or 'twitch response', signalling your brain to repair damaged tissue by promoting normal blood supply. This releases tension, relieves pain + improves movement.

WHAT CAN IT TREAT?

Muscle Pain + Tension

Joint Pain

Neuromuscular Pain

Osteoarthritis

Sciatica

Inflammation

Muscle Spasms/ Trigger Points/ Knots

Mobility + Function

Increases Blood Flow

Tension Headaches + Migraines

Shoulder/ Rotator Cuff Pain

Muscle Strains

TMJ/ Jaw Pain

DOES IT HURT?

Some clients don't feel a thing as the needles are so fine, others feel a small prick.

If the needle goes into a trigger point, you may experience a mild, dull ache, causing a contraction or 'twitch response'... this is a good sign as it triggers the repair process!

Clients often experience decreased muscle tension + pain relief immediately as the trigger point is inactivated.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

For acute pain, only 1 session may be needed.

Chronic conditions may need 6 sessions or more.

Most clients only require 2 or 3 sessions to attain the full effects of pain relief.

HOW OFTEN CAN I GO?

Depending on your condition, you can have 1-2 sessions per week, a minimum 3 days apart.

POST TREATMENT

You may experience muscle soreness for up to 24 hours after treatment, but its important to keep moving + stretching.

Gentle exercise is best, waiting at least 24-48 hours before doing any strenuous physical activity.

Drink plenty of water to stray hydrated.

Use heat, not ice. A warm bath, shower or heating pad helps promote blood circulation. Only if bruising occurs, should ice be applied instead of heat.

HOW LONG AFTER AN INJURY?

Dry Needling isn't recommended during the first 48 hours after injury. This is when the RICE principles should be applied.

After this you may needle the surrounding muscles, although it's suggested to wait at least 7-10 days before needling into the damaged muscle.

INCORPORATING DRY NEEDLING INTO A MASSAGE TREATMENT

Massage immediately after needling enhances the treatment effect, providing faster healing through greater blood + lymphatic flow.

Massage also reduces inflammation + helps you sleep better, improving the dry needling results by ensuring the necessary rest + recovery.

IS IT THE SAME AS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine + works towards general wellness.

Dry Needling is a part of modern Western medicine + works towards pain relief.

AGE RESTRICTIONS

Parental/ guardian consent is required for clients under 16 years of age + must be present during the treatment.

Not recommended for children under 12 years.

If you have any symptoms such as an ongoing migraine, severe pins + needles, blurred vision + nausea, I recommend you see your GP + get a clearance before booking a treatment.
